Shot a local Porsche GT2

This past weekend I shot a 2002 Porsche 911 GT2. It’s a Protomotive built car that puts down 715rwhp on 112 octane. It’s unforunate that the owner was too lazy to move the car, that’s why every shot seems so static. I had to make do with what I had.

It’s been about a decade since I’ve updated, at least on the front end. There’s been a lot of back end updates that I just haven’t bothered to blog about. Two weekends ago, we packed up and headed out to Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, OH for the Super Chevy Show. Mark Carlyle brought out his sick Fleetwood RV, and we had the 27′ Salem aka “Sugar Shack.” Brandon from IPS Motorsports trailered up Chris Anderson’s supercharged C6 Z06 that was piloted by Sam “Socks” Demeter. Mark did his personal best of the day with a 9.06 @ 154.14 mph, in addition to his 1.39 60′. Without further adieu, here’s the link to the gallery.

About a month ago we went to the Argosy Casino in Lawrenceburg, IN. Talk about a smoke zone, every old granny was in their feeding the dollar monsters. It’s absolutely amazing how people come to an establishment in droves to hand away their hard earned money in hopes of winning $50 back, or a “comped” buffet. Seriously, you can get a better deal at the local Hometown Buffet. Apparently they are undocking the Argosy Casino, and a new one should be opening up on June 30th called The Hollywood. We’ll see if I go back to check it out. I’d feel more compelled if they had a non-smoking floor.

Sam won $500 right off the bat after sticking a $20 bill into the Wheel of Fortune machine. I told that idiot to take the money and run. But what does he do? Sticks it right back in the machine and loses it all. Where’s that free buffet?

Nearly 10 years in the making. I’ll finally be a graduate of Ohio State’s BFA in Photography program. Since I always shoot and never actually update the site with new material, I figured I would do so in today’s blog. My shutter was definitely flapping a lot this weekend, and the weekend before. Two weeks ago, I shot the Rock on Ice event for Aflac Insurance Group in Indiana. And on Saturday, I did a photo shoot with a local model, Darcie. Here’s a sneak peak. You can checkout her full photo shoot in the photography section. She’s a senior at the Columbus College of Art and Design, majoring in painting. We’ll be doing another shoot in her painting studio shortly.

I attended the No Hatin’ In Dayton event at Kilkare Raceway in Xenia, OH on Sunday. It was put on in part by Brock Davidson of Brock’s Performance. Virtually every bike there was a Suzuki Hayabusa, undisputedly the king of the track. Except for maybe the new Kawasaki ZX-14. Anyhow, enough about the bikes. The usual concession stands weren’t open Sunday, so a few entrepreneurs decided to open up for business. There were these three guys who had brought a smoker along the back of their Suburban. Have you ever had one of those giant turkey legs at the state fair? Or maybe even at Medieval Times, the themed restaurant? Well, I haven’t, and I circled these guys like a vulture. Every 30 minutes, I came back around asking if they were done, and they weren’t. Eventually at 2:16pm, my boy Shanton and I got our turkey legs, and got our faces covered in barbeque sauce.Â Enough blogging, as I could write a book. I can’t believe how damn hot it is here. The daytime high is 105F, and it is 85F at night. Will update with more camera phone pics tomorrow. I do have my camera gear with me, so maybe I will go shoot late at night tomorrow.

It needs to stop raining in Ohio

We hit a record for the month of June in Ohio in total rainfall. Surpassing a record set over 50 years ago, the environmentalists will some how tie it in with global warming. If our cars ran on water, we’d be set to go.

I’m currently taking a video art class this summer with Dan Shallenbarger of DVPlace.com. Ardine Nelson recommended that I take this course, because she knows I’m not into alternative cameras, and it’ll satisfy the credit for me to graduate this fall. Dan is probably the coolest instructor I have ever had, second to Sarah Weinstock. He has some much information about TV that I want to hear everything he has to say. I’m supposed to shoot a biography video this weekend, that doesn’t include me in the actual video. Good thing it’s July 4th.

I recently shot the Hot Import Nights event when it came to Columbus with Mike Bender and Dave Bourne of CarandModel. Here’s a direct link to the article I wrote, and the images we collectively shot.

Mika and Kelli are going to be in town on Saturday (Mika is pictured above), and I’ll probably end up shooting them in the studio if they have time.Â Cross your fingers.

I also shot the Nopi Drift event when they came to town June 7-8, but since I was insanely sick for 2 weeks after that event, I was delayed in getting the photos out to Mike to process to put up on the site. As a matter of fact, I still need to write the article for it. Oops. Better get on that this weekend or else I am in trouble! I’ll update some photography links too in a few days. I have really been slacking.

I just realized that I hadn’t updated in months, on the front end at least. As usual, things have been really busy. Spring quarter is finishing up, and I finally graduate this fall. I picked up a new Olympus Styles 850SW from Costco last week. It goes 10feet under water, and is shock resistant from 5feet vertical drops. This is the 2nd point and shoot camera I have purchased in 10 years. I really didn’t want to subject my DSLRs to vibrations and water on the boat like I did last year.

Today is Mother’s Day, and I took my mom, dad, sister, and her b/f Greg to dinner at Akai Hana. It’s a nice little Japanese restaurant off of Old Henderson. It’s not often that I pay for dinner. On Saturday, I went to a really ghetto car show out at the Frontier Ranch in Pataskala, OH called Cruisefest Nationals. It’s basically a large gathering of White trash, beads, and girls showing boobs. Somehow, they managed to add in cars to make it a legitimate car show. Save your money. I will add the link to the photos section shortly. We also went boating out on Buckeye Lake earlier in the day. The water police stopped us, as he suspected we were over the boat’s weight limit. Damn was he right! He told us to either drop a person off on shore, or go home. Or else, he’d cite us. We went home to avoid a citation. More to come later, it’s about bedtime.

Playing with lights

So I’ll admit, I’m pretty foreign when it comes to studio lighting. I can handle hot-shoe flashes pretty well, but it is true when they say, “the less lights, the better.” You use one light to get rid of one shadow, and another appears. Everything has a learning curve I guess, and I’m picking up on studio lights pretty fast. Sam and I did some shots in the studio yesterday, and I wanted him to look as flaming as possible. Did I succeed?

I finally gave in and bought an iPod Touch 16GB. B&H Photo was selling the for $359 with free shipping. I’ve been wanting to get one so I can carry around a portfolio and show models on the fly. Anyhow, I’m going to rest before bowling, but I just wanted to mention that Annie & Monica’s photo shoot is now up in the photography section. Cheeeeeeeeck it out!

Sometimes I wonder why I blog, because I don’t know if anyone even reads these. Nonetheless, it’s a good way to vent. It’s hard to believe that Autumn quarter ended last Monday. It feels like school has been out of session since September. Soon enough, I’ll be 27, and counting the days until 28. Some of my photo friends are graduating Winter/Spring, so I’ll miss them for sure. We all went out to Eddie George’s Grill in the Gateway area for food and drinks Monday. It was pretty fun, but the food wasn’t anything special. Alyssa got so drunk that she started to take photos herself. This is the same girl that burrows her head under the sand like an Ostrich whenever my lens is pointed at her. I decided to take advantage of this opportunity, and shot some myself.

One of the greatest things about Christmas time are the sales. I know it’s the time to give, but let’s be real here, it’s the time to be selfish. All of the things you couldn’t afford during the year are now half off. I had been wanting to get a new set of bindings for my snowboard for a while now. However, paying $140 for some Burton Custom bindings was just too much for me. Venturing over to Dick’s Sporting Goods on Saturday, I managed to find a set of ‘07 model Burton Custom bindings! I missed the closeout sale at Aspen Ski & Board, so I was hoping that someone would have some ‘07 stuff still up for sale. The tag read $119, and I was down for spending that much to get the new “cap strap” technology. When I finally made it to the cashier and heard him say the sweetest words I’d ever heard in years, “that’ll be $93.91″ I almost felt like a criminal. However, I’m all about sticking it to corporate America, so I just swiped my AMEX. Check them out, their pretty bad ass. White & gold are the hotness!

Today, I went to the New Albany Shooting Range with Annie and Jon. There’s something liberating about being able to exercise the 2nd amendment. Even hotter, was watching an attractive female clicking off rounds like she’s fresh out of the army. We rented a S&W 357 revolver. This thing sure does pack a punch! I thought this weekend was a money conservation weekend, but we blew $90 in bullets today in 2 hours. Can’t wait ’til next week.
